3M - Misspelled, Mistranslated or Mispronounced?

3M - Misspelled, Mistranslated or Mispronounced?

Those learning Gemoro, especially Daf Yomi who for the past year have been learning the three בבות  in Nezikin are familiar with the words זבין  (with a Yud) and זבן (without the Yud).   זבין means sold and זבן means bought.

Therefore חד גדיא דזבין אבא should be translated, my father sold, or change the spelling to דזבן.

Mori V'Rabi Harav Hagaon R. Shlomo Miller Shlita said, there is a third possibility to keep the spelling with a Yud but change the pronunciation to DEZVIN instead of DEZABIN.

The translation will change to " One kid the "purchase" of my father.

We have שבת הגדול because the נס of crossing the Yarden didn't happen on Shabbos.

We have שבת הגדול because the נס of crossing the Yarden didn't happen on Shabbos.

The ב"ח (O.Ch.430) writes, "why do we commemorate the נס  (sheep tied to bed ) on Shabbos instead of the tenth of Nissan." (actual date of נס)

He explains, "so as not to confuse it with a different נס that also happened on the10th of Nissan. The crossing of the ירדן happened on the tenth of Nissan but it did not happen on a Shabbos.

By commemorating the נס  (sheep tied to bed ) always on Shabbos  and not on the10th Nissan

no one will think we are celebrating because of the other נס of crossing the ירדן.

Bava Basra 60b
(Today's Daf)

על ראש שמחתי, אר"י זה אפר מקלה שבראש חתנים

The Kol Bo writes There are places where they don't place the ashes on the Choson's
head, because there are some Chasanim who don't wear Tefilin (פאר תחת אפר) ---

instead,  a כוס is broken after the שבע ברכות  to mourn the Churban Habayis.

This Kol Bo is the first source for breaking a כוס under the Chupa to mourn the Churban Habayis.

The Gemoro in Brachos where מר בריה דרבינא & רב אשי who at their son's weddings broke
expensive cups was not because of the Churban but to minimize excessive joy in Olam Hazeh. (ר' יונה)

.......................................................................................................................................................................

The Minhag today, is that the mothers of Chosson Kallah are the ones who break the plate at the תנאים

Perhaps the reason for this is because the תנאים originally was done at home. The woman of
the house brought the plate from the kitchen. Since it was in her hands she was the one
to break it. אמבצי

Act normal when performing Mitzvos

Parshas Hashavua
Act normal when performing Mitzvos

Rashi (Shemos 38: 22 ) says,” Moshe commanded Betzalel to do the Klei Hamishkan
first and then to construct the Mishkan. Betzalel argued and said the Minhag is to build the
house first and then the Keilim, so you can place them in the house. Moshe agreed
that this was the way Hashem originally commanded him.”

Why didn't Moishe think of such an obvious problem it would create, not having where
to house the Keilim ?

We can answer this question with another question.

The building of the Mishkan was completed on the 25th of Kislev. The first time
it was erected was more than three months later. on Rosh Chodesh Nissan.

What was Betzalel's argument? Why was it important to build the Mishkan first if
they wouldn't store the Keilim there for the first 3 months?

Perhaps we can answer.
Bezalel's  concern was not, that the Mishkan needs to
be ready first, for the practical reason to place the Klei Hamishkan in it.

He knew that both, the Mishkan and the Keilim will  need to go into storage
for 3 months.

His argument was, being the Minhag Haolam is to build
the home first and then the furniture, ( practical reason)
so too when building a Mishkan, we  should follow the Minhag
Haolam and build the Mishkan first and then the Keilim.

He held, when doing Mitzvohs we should act and do it in
a normal manner. We should follow the Minhag Haolom.

From the Loshon of  Rashi,  we see that his main complaint was
the Minhag Haolam.
The practical problem of storage is only  an explanation for the
Minhag Haolam and not for the Mishkan and Keilim which would be

stored for three months. (אמבצי)

The Laws of Medinas Yisrael

The Laws of Medinas Yisrael:

Daf Hashavua
Bava Basra 54b

והאמר שמואל דינא דמלכותא דינא

There is a Machlokes Rishonim if Dina D'malchusa is
applicable in a Jewish Malchus.

According to the רמב"ם & רשב"ם Dina D'malchusa is applicable
even in Eretz Yisroel with a Jewish Government.

According to the ר"ן the land belongs to the Shevatim
and all of Bnei Yisroel, therefore the Malchus has no power
of Dina D'malchusa.

Laws that the populace  accepted amongst themselves
and are willing to pay taxes because it benefits the inhabitants
even the ר"ן will agree Dina D'malchusa applies in a Jewish Malchus."

Today with the State of Israel whose government is non-Frum,
according to,

a) Harav E. Henkin & Harav Ovadya Yosef zt"l, all the laws
(not opposing Torah) must be followed because of D.D.

b) Harav Y.S. Elyashiv zt"l, held it is a Safek*

c) The Chazon Ish  held  there is no Dina D'malchusa in Medinas Yisroel.

Most Poskim would probably agree,
1) D.D. is applicable on traffic laws and building codes etc.
2) Those who benefit from the social programs may not
cheat on their taxes.

All the Bais Yakovs & Chadorim have it wrong.

All the Bais Yakovs & Chadorim have it wrong.

The coming next few weeks, all Bais Yakov Schools and Chadorim will be teaching the children Hagada Shel Pesach.
Most children will be able to sing, translate and memorize in the proper order the 10 מכות.

The הגהות מיימוני writes the reason R. Yehudah gave the siman of דצ"ך עד"ש is because Dovid Hamelech in Tehillim (78 & 105) mixed up the order of the  מכות. R. Yehudah gave the siman for the מביאי ביכורים to say it in the proper order.

The Chasam Sofer writes the reason why the order in Tehillim is mixed up because there is a סכנה to verbalize  the מכות)

נזיקין) Therefore, except for ליל שמורים the order of the מכות are mixed up to mix up the pipelines so no harm will come from saying it.

The Chasam Sofer continues that for this reason when teaching children they should mix up the order of the 10 מכות .Only at the Seder night should they say it in order. The way to memorize the proper order should be with the siman of דצ"ך עד"ש

Perhaps since none of the schools & Chadorim follow  the Chasam Sofer's advice and do teach it in the proper order there is no danger in doing so because of 'שומר פתאים ה. Chazal tell us, if the masses do something dangerous, Hashem protects the fools. אמבצי

Its Odd

In Hilchos Megillah (690 :3) it says :
"if the middle of the Megillah is missing words up to half (words) and the Ba'al Kriah read it by heart you were Yotzei".

The Mishna Verura and in Shar Hatzion discusses what If the Megillah were to be missing exactly half the words.
The Mishna Verura question is only valid if the Megillah has an even amount of words, then can you have the exact amount of words missing as not missing.

If the number of words in the Megillah is an odd number, then it's impossible to have exactly the same amount of missing words as not missing.

Supposedly according to the computer count the number of words in the Megillah are odd.

How can we explain the Heilige Chofetz Chaim, for not even taking into consideration the possibility to have an odd
amount of words in the Megillah?

We can't say that it was just a Lomdishe theoretical question because of his answer, "that it will be a Machlokes between the Rambam and the Rosh& Ran".

Mori V'Rabi Harav Hagaon Reb  Shlomo Miller Shlita said that some words in the Megillah, if they were misspelled,
does not render the Megillah Pasul. However, a misspelled word is not considered or counted as a correct word and therefore  this will change the Megillah from odd to even number of words.

It is said in the name of Harav Hagaon R, Y.S. Elyashiv zt"l that it is possible to have an even worded  Megillah if
it was written in a different language other than Loshon Hakodesh (It is a kosher Megillah #690:9)

The Clipper Son Of The Clipper

The Ibn Ezra (Koheles 5) criticizes the Piyutim of the Kalir.*

He has four main complaints against them.

1) Most of them are Chidos (riddles) & Mosholim (parables)

2) Instead of Loshon Hakodesh he mixes in Loshon Hatalmud

3) He invents words & uses improper Dikduk (poetic license)

4) They are based on Medroshos & Agodos instead of Pshat

The Teshuvas Maharashdam (O..Ch 35) claims,
The Sephardic Paytonim  have a simpler and easier
language. Everybody can understand the Piyut, whereas the
Ashkenazi Paytonim use difficult words and even the
Shatz (Chazzan) doesn't understand what he is saying.

He recommends Ashkenazim to switch to Nusach Sefard,
which is a superior Nusach.  He claims "Al Titosh Toras
Imecha is only applicable when there is a small Issur involved
and not for changing a Nusach Hatefilah.

The Chasam Sofer (Hagohos O.Ch.68) writes that "the Mahrashdam
wasn't aware of the Magen Avraham (68) who writes. you are
not allowed to change the Nusach Hatefilah because
there are 12 gates in heaven, one for each Shevet. Each one
has his own Minhag. The Yerushalmi says, they are all equal
you should not change from the Minhag of your fathers."

Had the Maharshdam been aware of this M.A., he wouldn't
have written what he wrote".

Only Megillas Esther is referred to, as a Megillah.

The Gemoro (Megillah 14a) says קרייתא זו הלילא. Reading the  Megillah is the saying of Hallel. We don’t need to say Hallel on Purim,  because reading the Megillah, is considered as the Hallel.

The מאירי says, if someone didn't read (hear) the Megillah, he must say Hallel on Purim. (to at least be Yotzei Mitzvas Hallel)

The Gemoro (18b) says that R.Meir didn’t have a Megillah on Purim, so he  wrote one by heart.

The Chasam Sofer (Shu”t O.Ch. 192) brings a Kushya from R. Yehuda Osad zt"l

"Why couldn’t R. Meir have said Hallel instead of writing a whole Megillah?"

The Chasam Sofer answered him a Tirutz.

My Eidem asked, that "The Kushya doesn't even begin and
why the need of the Chasam Sofer with a Tirutz?

The Gemoro only says , by reading the Megillah you were
Yotze Hallel , and not that by saying Hallel were you Yotze
Mikra Megillah."
R. Meir would not have been Yotzei Mikra Megillah by saying
Hallel and therefore had to write a Megillah.

On Tisha B'av there is no Machlokes. We do not

Seems,

Tisha B'av is a bigger YomTov than Purim.

THE PURIM LEAP- משוורתא דפוריא

                                                                 THE PURIM LEAP- משוורתא דפוריא

On Lag Baomer in Eretz Yisroel, children light up bonfires on every street corner and backyard etc. This practice is fairly
new and there is no Mokor (source) for doing so. It is done for fun and perhaps to imitate the Hadlakah in Meron.

However, there was such a Minhag of children lighting bonfires but it was done on Purim. This Minhag  goes
back to the times of the Gemoro.

The Gemoro says ( Sanhedrin 64b)  "כמשוורתא דפוריא." Rashi explains “On Purim, children made a fire  in a pit and
jumped over it.”

The Rema (*Darkei Moshe O.Ch. 690) quotes from the Aruch who writes,"All Bachurim make an effigy of Haman and hang it on their roofs for a few days. When Purim arrives, they make a fire and they have a ring on which they hang the effigy over the fire. They jump from one side (of the fire)to the other. This ring is called **משוורתא דפורים."

single volume Sefer D.M.(not in Tur)
