Answer To The Shabbos/Yom Tov Riddle -Parshas Yisroi

1)   A Choleh who is in a Reshus Hayachid and needs to eat a fruit (Pikach Nefesh)

2) There are two fruits available, one is attached to a tree in the  Reshus Hayachid 

of the Choleh.The other one is not attached to a tree but is in a Reshus Harabim.

3) On Shabbos it makes no difference which fruit the Choleh is given.

(both Chillul Shabbos) One may be Mechallel Shabbos Lekatechila and 

pick the fruit off the tree.

4) On Yom Tov by bringing in the(unattached) fruit from the Reshus Harabim 

there is no Chillul Y.T. Picking the fruit off the tree there is Chillul Y.T. 

On Y.T. you may not remove  the attached fruit in the Reshus Hayachid if you

can get the unattached fruit from the Reshus Harabim.(no Chillul whatsoever)

5) On Shabbos you may pick the fruit off the tree Lekatechila

On Yom Tov if you  picked the fruit off the tree, you would be 

Chayav Malkos.
