Chasidim got it right.

ברוך אתה ה' אלוקינו מלך העולם זוכר הצדיקים When do you make this Bracha? In Shulchan Aruch (O.Ch. 218:8) it says that when one sees the wife of לוט,(PIllar of salt) then these two Brachos are to be recited. 1) ברוך - דיין האמת for Mrs. לוט(Idit) 2) ברוך - זוכר הצדיקים for לוט. The Mishna Verurah (שער הציון כ"ב) writes, "He doesn't know why we would make a Bracha on her who was a non-Jewess. The M.V. reluctantly answers that maybe we are sad that Avraham Avinu was unsuccessful in saving her life." Perhaps, we can answer that the Bracha of  דיין האמת Chazal originally were מתקן for שמועות רעות* (bad news) therefore  we don't make the Bracha on a Goy since we are not מצטער on them.** The one exception where we do make the Bracha דיין האמת that is not for שמועות רעות is when seeing the wife of לוט. Chazal were מתקן the Bracha דיין האמת as a ברכת השבח על הנס. This set of 2 Brachos are to Praise Hashem for saving לוט. Since there is no monument for לוט and the only thing visible today is Mrs.לוט, therefore, we acknowledge the punishment of Mrs. לוט by making the Bracha of דיין האמת and thereby can continue to make the Bracha of זוכר הצדיקים. אמבצי The M.V. explains the Bracha of זוכר הצדיקים. "We praise Hashem for saving לוט who didn't have the זכויות and was only saved because of Avraham Davened for him". So too Hashem should send us all the ישועות even if we don't deserve it but because of the Tefilos of the צדיקים. Chasidim rightfully stress the importance of תפילות של צדיקים. This should add another reason for having צדיקים Daven for us, since Hashem accepts their תפילות even for others who don't deserve it. * O.
